We've got the channel 9 app up on our smart TV and there's a big picture of Alex de Manure looking gritty and

looking ready for the fight and looking ready to reach a first Australian Open

quarter-final and he so nearly did but he didn't and somehow that picture that we've been

looking at all week now has a slightly haunting quality about it.

Matt and David you were in the stadium, you were for large parts of that match on Rodlav Arena

extremely pumped and sending me photo evidence of that pumpedness and you've come back a little

bit flat.

Yes, it was a fantastic night actually.

Just the whole occasion the the match itself was

was brilliant until the fifth set when it ended six love and I was so impressed

with both players I don't think I've seen either of them play quite that well, certainly not in the flesh.

And it was so impressive, so spectacular, the sheer number of lines they were hitting.

And when Diminor somehow wrestled the initiative and went two sets to one up,

requiring two tie-break sets to do it, requiring two tie break sets to do it. I thought he'd got it and I don't blame

him for not winning. I think Rublev was responsible for that win. I think he just took it back he just wrestled it back I thought it was awesome

but before we analyze it all full disclosure here I did fall asleep right at the end of the fourth set and woke up on match point in the fifth.
