Luke 12:13-21 - Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” 14 But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” 15 And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” 16 And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ 18 And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ 21 So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

0:48.0	anxiety. In today, Jesus takes us into a scenario where he's talking about the anxiety we feel regarding
0:55.2	possessions. This is Luke 12, verses 13 through 21, and Jesus' same characteristic style is going
1:02.7	to teach us through some stories. Now, let me say something here about possessions. When we experience
1:09.9	anxiety about possessions, it's usually about the loss of them or whether or not we're going to be
1:16.0	able to get them. And the possessions could be everything from money to houses to an inheritance
1:22.3	to all kinds of stuff. And Jesus uses stories here that are going to lead us down that path
1:29.0	of seeing the different contexts in which this kind of anxiety can exist. So Luke 12, 13 through 21,
1:35.1	he says, someone in the crowd said to him, teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.
1:43.0	But he said to him, man, who made me a judge or arbiter over you? And he said to them, so he's
1:50.2	turning to the whole crowd in the light of what this man said to him, take care and be on your guard
