Acts chapter 19 verses 23 through 27. About that time there arose no little disturbance concerning

the way. For a man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis,

brought no little business to the craftsmen. These he gathered together with the workmen in

similar trades and said, men, you know that from this business we have our wealth. And you see and

here that not only in Ephesus but in almost all of Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away

a great many people saying that gods made with hands are not gods. And there is danger not only

that this trade of ours may come into distribute but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis

may be counted as nothing and that she may even be deposed from her magnificence,

she whom all Asia and the world worship. Yes, is that not an awesome passage? Demetrius,

the silversmith is mad, along with the other craftsmen who make money off of idolatry and Paul.

This Paul, he says, has persuaded and turned away a great many people to the one true God,

saying that all these gods that we're making are not gods. And here's the big danger,

not only are we losing our money but the great goddess Artemis might be counted as nothing,

she might be deposed from her magnificence, she whom all Asia and the world worship.

Don't we long for this? Don't we long for the proclamation of the gospel to put a dent in

idolatrous practices, to put an end to them, to put an end to people making money off of idolatry,

to put an end to gods and goddesses who are being worshipped instead of the one true God.

You start to think, what would this look like? And the culture, the context where you live,

where I live, what would it look like for idols to fall, for the marketplace to be affected by people

coming to know Jesus? Just imagine what that would look like and let's pray for it. God,

we want to see Acts chapter 19 verses 23 through 27, where we live, we want to see gods fall.
