Anthony Everitt is a British professor, author and historian of ancient Rome. His critically acclaimed books about Roman history include Cicero: The Life and Times of Rome's Greatest Politician, Augustus: The Life of Rome's First Emperor, The Rise of Rome: The Making of the World's Greatest Empire, and The Rise of Athens: The Story of the World's Greatest Civilization. He also publishes historical essays regularly in The Guardian and The Financial Times.
