Summary

Having explored the ways in which the arguments of a leading Christian legal advocate conform to the way the godless think about the world we live in, David raises two objections that might be made against his analysis. He answers them with the help of William Blackstone and a conversation between his friends at Choc Knox Unplugged. Getting a free copy of David’s short monograph, Toward Christian Nihilism-A Short Study in Contrasting Policy Approaches, will make clearer what’s going on.

Thank you for joining us for another episode of God, Law, and Liberty with David Fowler,

0:08.3

President of the Family Action Council of Tennessee. Every week, we are putting culture, politics,

0:14.0

and law on a collision course with the truth of God's word. And now, here's David.

0:23.6

Thank you for joining me for God, Law, and Liberty today. And I really am delighted and honored to have you with me. And for those of you who are such faithful listeners, I thank you so very much. I will confess that there's been so much going through my mind

0:49.6

And I just, my thoughts go in a hundred different directions, I guess you could say.

1:07.1

And I feel like I could just start talking extemporaneously and go on for hours,

1:11.8

and it'd probably be a jumbled mess and not much help.

1:15.6

But I thought today I would slow down just a bit and not pursue a further discussion of what Blackstone called natural liberties,

1:32.0

civil liberties, and political liberties. We just finished elections, and of course, people are

1:37.8

talking about, oh, civil rights, civil liberties, and they really don't even know historically

1:44.0

what those terms mean and the

1:45.8

difference between them.

1:47.1

And let me just suggest to you, if you ever run in, somebody's talking about civil rights,

1:51.4

just say, well, what are civil rights?

1:53.7

And where do they come from?

1:55.0

And if they give you an answer, say, so how are those different from political rights?

2:01.2

And then depending on what they say, so how are any of those different from natural rights or natural liberties?

2:06.6

You may not have to know the answers to the questions.

2:08.9

Just asking them simply will let them know they don't really know what they're talking about.
