Lord Geith said relatively recently that resignation from the role, which he only took up

last year, would be a last resort that, and I quote, sends a critical signal into the public domain.

I've got two quick things to say before we get stuck into this conversation.

The first is this. Let us imagine, and I don't know whether it's beyond the realms of possibility,

but let us imagine for a moment that Lord Geith's resignation letter,

when it is published, says something like this. It says something like, do you know what? I'm

really sorry, boss, but I've had enough. I won the lottery last week. And Mrs. Guy, Lady Geite,

has bought a yacht and we're just going to clear off to Bermuda for a couple of years.

In other words, if his resignation, when we see this letter, if we see this letter, has absolutely

nothing to do with his view expressed this week that the party's scandal was unconscionable

or that it was probable, I think, is the correct word to use,

that Boris Johnson had broken the ministerial code.

He's made his frustrations clear.

But let us imagine, not pretend, but imagine that the letter makes it clear that he hasn't

resigned over his disillusionment or dissatisfaction with Boris Johnson.
