Summary

We realise that re-living 2020 probably isn’t high on your list of priorities, but we can promise that this week’s podcasts are not all doom and gloom as we look back on this strange but momentous tennis year and the way we covered it as a podcast.

In this episode, with the help of clips from throughout the year, we reminisce about the Australian Open, the warning signs in February and March that covid-19 was spreading, the sudden shutdown of the world, and the launch of our Tennis Re-Lived series.

We will be back on Thursday with part two, covering the return of tennis.

The Tennis Podcast is presented by Catherine Whitaker and David Law, and features Matt Roberts.

Not that we have favourites, but of course we do. And Russell and Brad are two of them.

They backed us in last year's Kickstarter. Their lovely dog Butler that's sadly no longer with us. He is and was our mascot for the year 2020.

And a very fine dog he was too. He's been immortalised by my mum with a portrait. And Russell and Brad requested that Butler's background for that portrait be the same as Barack Obama's official portrait, which is just the coolest thing.

1:11.0

So well done Russell, Brad and Butler for being cool.

1:16.0

And I think Butler probably provided my favourite content moment of 2020 by wearing...

1:25.0

I know exactly what you're going to say.

1:27.0

It was Australian open time when things were so much nicer. But Butler helped by Russell and Brad, don't the grigor dimmer of warm-up suit.

1:39.0

We don't know that he was helped. Well, that's true. But in a sort of split screen of the two of them, Butler looked the better. No offense, grigor.

1:48.0

Yes, everything was nicer except grigor dimmer 12's kit.

1:51.0

And Butler really did pull it off magnificently.

1:56.0

But thinking about that actually, and this is a looking back on the year show. So this fits in nicely. He said a very eventful year with tracksuits has grigor dimmer 12, hasn't he?

2:11.0

Is he? What else do you have?

2:13.0

Well, there was the French open incident where he couldn't get his tracksuit bottoms off.

2:18.0

And he had to waddle around with the maraud around his ankles for the coin toss. Did I imagine that? No, I didn't.

2:26.0

No, I know that definitely happened.

2:28.0

How did that not make it into the highlights? That would be a part two.

2:32.0

There's going to be a lot of this, isn't there over the next hour? Did that really happen? Yes, folks.

2:37.0

This show, I know what you've all been wanting, which is let's relive the most awful year that's sort of ever happened in recent memory.

2:46.0

And we aim to please. So that's what we're going to be doing over the course of two shows.
