Lord God, as we read about this figure John the Baptist

and his role in the kingdom of God, we ask you, Lord, to give us your ears, your heart, your mind to

understand what we're reading. We ask in your name, amen. Okay, Matthew 3, 1 through 3,

it says, in those days, John, the Baptist, came preaching

in the wilderness of Judea. Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he of who

was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, the voice of one crying in the wilderness,

prepare the way of the Lord, make his path straight.
