This is Bart Ehrman, and I'm pleased to announce that I'm starting a new weekly podcast called

Misquoting Jesus with Bart Ehrman. In each episode, my host, Megan Lewis and I will discuss

just about everything you can imagine about the New Testament and the early

years of Christianity, issues connected with the historical Jesus, the mysterious book of

Revelation, the non-canonical Gospels, early Christian groups such as the Gnostics, and much,

much more. These are all topics that scholars have explored for centuries,

but lay people as a rule do not know what they have discovered, let alone why they think

what they do. In the podcast, I'll explain New Testament and early Christian scholarship in

layperson's terms so that you could learn what the issues are, see what

the scholars have argued, and allow you then to make up your own mind.

We already have a number of episodes lined up.

The first two will explain why we are calling it misquoting Jesus, the title of one of my books,

which examines how and why Christian scribes

changed the words of the New Testament in many places, making it difficult or sometimes even

impossible to know exactly what the authors originally wrote. In part, my study of that problem

is what led me away from my evangelical faith and eventually

away from Christianity altogether, even though I still study the New Testament intensely

and deeply respect the Christian tradition.

And so the podcast's first episode will explain how and why I left the faith.

The next episode will discuss what we actually know about Christian scribes and the copies

of scripture they produced, copies that are translated for our English Bibles today.

After that, we already have a number of intriguing episodes already set up. Here are some of the titles.
