Summary

Hello everyone! If you don't use Spotify to listen to our podcast, you can skip this one!

If you do listen on Spotify, we have decided to remove our show from the platform. Althrough many of the Friends at the Table cast were users of the service in the past, recent changes to Spotify and actions of it employees means our desire to remove ourselves from the platform now outweight the convenience of using it and letting our show remain on the service. These include support of generative AI music and artists, running ads we have no control over (including recruitment ads for the United State's DHS and ICE enforcement), and Spotify's CEO making investments into an AI military defense company

In this recording, Jack and Austin do a better job of explaining the depth of our feelings on the matter and suggestions for alternatives to Spotify for listening and curating music. For podcasts, popular alternative apps are Overcast, PocketCasts, and Podcast Addict.

Welcome to our friends at the table. This is not a full episode, so I'm not going to do the full intro. I'm Austin Walker. I'm joined by Jack DeKee. Hi, Jack. Hi, Austin. As you can see in the episode title, which we haven't named exactly yet, but I think we're tossing around like attention, Spotify listeners. Listen up, Spotify listeners. Something like that. We were, we're, but everyone's getting that. But everyone's getting it.

You go on with your life.

0:26.3

Keep on listening to us on.

0:27.7

What I'm looking here, mostly Apple Podcasts and overcast, big overcast listenership these days, which is fun to think about.

0:35.7

It seems like people have left, not left, because Apple still are, is still like very,

0:41.8

very clearly our biggest across all of the different shows, but huge overcast listenership

0:46.7

over the last, like, I don't know, a year or so, big, big pivot there, which is interesting

0:51.3

and nice to know.

0:52.2

So go leave us a review on overcast, since that seems to be a place people are finding

0:55.2

and listening to podcasts.

0:56.7

But high up there for the last year has been Spotify.

1:01.6

And that's not the case anymore.

1:03.4

It will stop being the case, because as you may have already noticed, we have not been publishing

1:07.7

stuff to Spotify for the last month or so.

1:17.1

And our plan is to continue not publishing stuff and eventually to pull down our stuff from Spotify.

1:19.2

I believe that's the plan, Jack.

1:21.7

I'm not just talking about how tales at school.

1:23.1

I think you're right.

1:26.4

And you might be thinking, but I'm listening to this on Spotify.

1:30.6

We turned the tap back on temporarily to reach you in your ears.
