Today, I'm both honored and delighted to have Annie Leibovitz on the show.

The occasion is the publication of her book, Pilgrimage.

And as soon as I opened the book, there was a photograph of Robert Frost's,

stopping by the woods on a snowy evening.

It's a photograph by Annie Leavitts, my guest, and I had no idea that she could make a page

of manuscript so emotional and dramatic.

This is the first book I know of, which is mostly places and objects, no people, so it's sort of a ghost book.

And this first poem, stopping by the woods on a snowy evening, is such a good way

of beginning. How do you photograph a manuscript, Annie? Well, first of all, most of the places

and people and objects, you know, I sort of, you know, tripped over and found.

And it was like a big treasure hunt.
