On episode 04 of SOMEWHERE IN THE SKIES, Ryan speaks with Annie Jacobsen, author of Phenomena: The Secret History of the U.S. Government's Investigations Into Extrasensory Perception and Psychokinesis. Annie goes into great detail on how the U.S. obtained extremely bizarre nazi documents after WWII that had to do with studying psychic phenomena. These studies would then be manipulated and reformed to be researched by the U.S. Government under the direction of the C.I.A. This culminated into several decades of working with psychics and remote viewers who would spy on the Soviets during the Cold War. Annie brings us up to date on many of these covert projects and how they have evolved into a whole new cyber and mind war in today's military industrial complex. And yes... we touch on ufology. 0:00.0	This is somewhere in the skies with Ryan Sprague. Oh, For a number of years, C. I have been tracking Soviet work in the so-called ESP area.
0:34.5	And they're really concerned because the Soviets,
0:37.8	including the KGB, were spending millions of dollars
0:40.5	every year on this kind of phenomenon. They're very concerned about what could be being done to us.
0:46.0	They were specifically interested in whether individuals could extract information or get information from remote sites or from hidden material.
0:56.0	And so it was critical to them to find out, you know, just what abilities do people have.
1:01.0	A batch of declassified CIA documents that reveal the
1:05.4	agencies dealing with the paranormal is now official. According to the
1:09.3	secret files, the Central Intelligence Agency used a team of military-trained telepathic individuals
1:15.0	during the Iran embassy siege nearly 40 years ago.
1:18.5	The program named Grill Flame was established in 1975 and began as research into paranormal abilities, but its
1:25.8	star turn came in 1979 when the telepaths were used to provide information on where the
1:30.8	hostages were being held inside the embassy and the state of their health.
1:35.0	It really comes of no surprise that our intelligence agencies would attempt to obtain information by any means necessary.
1:43.6	But as we heard from former director of projects, Dr Harold Pudoff,
1:47.8	the CIA went to such great lengths during the Cold War as to bring in psychics who they believed could remote view Soviet and
1:55.4	KGB targets and spy on them.
1:58.4	As we also heard, this was later used in Project Grill Flame during the Iran Embassy's siege.
2:05.1	The overall project was officially terminated in 1995, having reached no solid conclusions
2:11.5	on the accuracy of remote viewing and psychic abilities.
2:15.2	But the CIA's involvement goes far deeper than this.
