Summary

August Sandberg has returned from paternal leave and vacation, and together with Andy Schell they catch up and talk about anchoring in the archipelago of Sweden and Norway – something which is done quite differently amongst sailors in this part of the world. Back in summertime a video Andy posted on Instagram went viral when he showed how he had removed the bow anchor from SPICA completely. This sparked many discussions in the comments and gave a great topic to share with you all.

Today's topic is something that I believe is pretty unique to Norway and Sweden.

0:58.1

I don't think this is practiced anywhere else.

1:01.3

It really shapes the way people sail and cruise up here.

1:04.7

It confuses foreigners and it's taken for granted by the locals.

1:08.4

And recording this episode got me thinking of how different sailing

1:13.7

might be in other parts of the world that I don't know about, where local conditions create

1:18.3

their own unique cruising techniques. So if you know of similar practices where you sail

1:25.2

or that you know of, please let us know know we'd love to hear from you all right

august orca has been sponsoring this season of the podcast um it's a Norwegian company i think

1:35.2

Norwegian and Spanish i was significantly impressed with the week i had on spike it's basically

1:41.5

like you and i have been talking about tablet navigation for years, and they finally, I think, figured it out. It's a maronized tablet with an induction charging mount. You can put it at the helm. It's fully waterproof. The charts are great. I love it. I've used it only for a week, so the jury is still a little bit out, but I know you just installed it on East Bjorn, and you mentioned that John Amtrop, one of your skippers, has used it for years and is a fan. So tell me about your experience with it. Yeah. I mean, I've only so far just played around with it and installed it, but I mean, the installment was a fantastic experience. So it was, you know, it's just, you have the tablet, which is, which is great, some maronized tablet. And then you also have the work at core, which is this kind of compass hub thing. And you, um, you just plug that into your N2K network. And then that's it. It took me five seconds to install. And even, I know, I was like, I was, I couldn't stop smile. Like, you can't believe, like, and it just

2:37.4

talks to each other. It just works. It's like, finally like modern technology that just like works.

2:41.8

Like, it was amazing. Yeah. Power, I felt the same thing.
