For a really long time I was a staunch defender of brunch, a meal that is much

maligned in the food writing worlds, but I'm changing my tone a little bit

recently. I think the best meal, perhaps of the the entire meal calendar is actually weekend lunch.

And today we're going to be talking with Anita Lowe, one of the O.G. fine dining chefs here in New York City.

She is an amazing chef. She wrote a great cookbook.

You've probably seen her on TV before,

and I can't wait to chat with her and hear her whole story.

I'm gonna need you to define the difference between a weekend brunch eaten at 1 p.m. and a weekend lunch

eaten at 1 p.m. and a weekend lunch eaten at 1 p.m.

A weekend lunch is a service at a restaurant that is perhaps a little bit fine, let's say.

I mean it can be, you know, it can be a very humble casual establishment, but there is no breakfast component.

There's not this idea that is where people should go to congregate and meet up with their friends.

It's just basically dinner in the middle of the day.

lunch gets a bad rap, right?

Like lunch is this very unsexy meal.

You know, you eat it at your desk or like you talk to people at a terrible midtown

restaurant for some business meeting and on the weekends talk to people at a terrible midtown restaurant

for some business meeting and on the weekends

it's not lunch, it's brunch.
