Welcome to the treatment. I'm Elvis Mitchell. You've probably seen Andy Circus in a number of things, or not seen him in a number of things, or not been able to identify him in a number of things.

Many of us, of course, know him from his work with Peter Jackson on the J.R. Tolkien films.

But I just remember seeing him and being really impressed by him and Mike Lee's career girls.

And two of my favorite music performances ever are his work as Ian Dury and Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll, and Martin Hannett and 24th hour party people.

Andy, first of all, thanks so much for being here.

Oh, thank you. I always thank you very much.

My pleasure to have you here.

And one of the things I just, I mean, I think about your Martin Hannett and 24th hour party people.

He's just sort of peering through these tiny evil eyes and the enormous amount of

pleasure he gets in making people suffer.

That was a great, I mean, Martin was a great character to play and Michael Winterbottom's

film was an extraordinary experience. You know, we really, you know, we all moved up to

Manchester. Of course, Steve Coogan, who was playing Tony Wilson, is from Manchester, and a lot of the people that were around at the time of Joy Division and, you know, were literally surrounding the movie.

And the whole experience was a crazy experience. I don't think any of us were completely accomplicementers for the entire run of the shoot, actually.

But Martin was just this, you know know people either loved him or hated him and both frequently at the same time because he was this crazy

kind of professor you know he went from being this rather skinny individual who was obsessed with

with finding new ways of recording sound and and uh to 26 stone

of overweight heroin addict who sadly died and then they couldn't get his body in the ground because

they couldn't get a coffin big enough to you know uh to get to get him in but but it was just so um

such a force of nature just as and and you know he loved for instance I mean you know

he obviously produced Joy Division and the Happy Mondays but he loved Abba and he loved
