The thing that I think is a little hard for us to grasp is how much of cognition turns out to be prediction.

That is absorbing information for your environment,

and then inferring what the next kind of thing in the sequence is going to be, whether it's

the next frame in a video or the next word in a sentence or the next diagnosis from a set of

x-rays or whatever. And way more than we might have imagined, just simply being really good

turns out to lead to lots of intelligent or quasi-intelligent behaviors, and we're seeing it

from these models. But the thing about prediction is it always and only involves absorbing a set
