Summary

Can Sabbath Rest Be a Circuit Breaker for Idolatry?

Host Curtis Chang and Good Faith podcast regular Andy Crouch explore how practicing true Sabbath rest can help Christians break free from burnout, technology overload, and the constant pressure to produce. Andy explains the biblical vision of Sabbath, the difference between rest and leisure, and why so many people feel enslaved to email, phones, and digital noise. They offer practical tools for burnout recovery, Sabbath rest practices, and Christian digital detox, helping listeners rediscover rhythms of rest, contemplation, and spiritual formation. If you're searching for guidance on how to practice Sabbath, how to disconnect from technology, or how to recover from burnout as a Christian, this conversation with Andy Crouch provides a hopeful path to real rest.

I think in a way the Bible is so pre-modern that it can't imagine people would have to be told

you should put away your phones and go to sleep. So that's not a commandment. I mean, I just think

0:10.0

ancient people couldn't imagine a world in which people just don't even sleep at night. But it does

make very fundamental a weekly practice of a day, a day of rest. And I just think that's essential. And the people I know who do it

are so grateful and humble and happy people. Their lives are not perfect and they're not happy

keep taking a day off every week,

not prosperity in some mechanical sense,

who's going to help us make sense of a very important

topic that often is neglected in this world, and it's the topic of rest. So, Andy, thank you

1:35.9

so much for joining us. It is a pleasure to be back. And we actually, it's not only a pleasure,

but it's a rare opportunity because Andy is about to go offline for quite some time on an extended sabbatical.
