He writes and researches in areas of theology, ministry, culture, and younger generations. Some of his most recent books are The Congregation in a Secular Age (Baker, 2021), The End of Youth Ministry? (Baker, 2020), The Pastor in a Secular Age: Ministry to People Who No Longer Need God (Baker, 2019), Faith Formation in a Secular Age (Baker, 2017), and Exploding Stars, Dead Dinosaurs, and Zombies: Youth Ministry in the Age of Science (Fortress Press, 2018). Andy has worked in congregations, parachurch ministries, and social service programs. He lives in St. Paul with his wife Kara, two children, Owen and Maisy, and their dog. 0:14.1	That's right. Andy is on here and we are talking about Dietrich Bonhofer and his experiment in theological education.
0:23.2	He was serving two German churches in London, and as the confessing church and its
0:29.1	resistance to Hitler grew and the tensions, but then the larger church got bigger, they
0:34.7	decided to create a number of seminaries that are detached from the
0:40.3	traditional part of the German church, a part of the church that had been seized by kind of
0:46.4	the Nazi energy and movement. And they call Bonhofer to start this seminary at Finkenvolda.
0:53.0	And there, he has this experiment in communal living, a Lutheran, a Protestant, a very
0:58.5	Lutheran guy, exploring what is it like to do theological education at a time where the church
1:05.6	is facing a crisis of integrity, a call to serve ultimately Hitler, a serve an ideology of death. And he thought,
1:16.1	there's something to learn from intentional communities. There's something to learn from the monastic
1:20.5	tradition. There's something to learn from those within the church that take the sermon on the
1:25.3	mount as a call to discipleship.
1:28.2	And it's there at Finkelolda.
1:29.2	He writes,

1:32.4	two books that remain classics in Western spirituality.
