Summary

Our "farewell" episode was published in late 2019. We knew then that at some point we'd start recording again, but we had NO IDEA it would take this long. With that said, we're so excited to be back and can't wait to get back in your regular podcast feed.

Thanks so much for sticking around.

Hey, everyone. Welcome to The Big Picture Retirement Show. I'm Devin Carroll and joined by John Ross. Hey, John. Howdy.

John. It's been a minute. It has been a minute. March of 2020 is when our last episode came out. Yeah, you know, there was stuff going on in March of 2020. It was. It was a busy time. But, you know, I think before that, it was December of 2019. Right. Before that. So we took a little bit of a break even up until March. So it's been a while since we've consistently recorded episodes. And there's been plenty happening that we could talk about. We've just been busy. Yeah, no, life catches up with you. But you know what? Our fans demanded our return. You know, I had somebody tell me, Devin, I cannot believe, and this is somebody that's in the podcasting space. They said, I cannot believe that you guys let that podcast go. They said at one point, you were the number two retirement podcast in the nation. I didn't know that, but I kind of regret it now. I wish I were. Right. Yeah, we you know, we should have stuck with it. But we got busy. You, uh, you became a YouTube celebrity, uh, kind of got full of yourself there for a little while. Yep, yep, yep. And you were busy with your band. I get it. That's right. That's right. Yep, you were busy playing.

But, you know, since that time, in all seriousness, things did accelerate for both of us.

1:34.0

They had accelerated for you prior to that.

1:37.1

Then around that time is when my business really started picking up.

1:40.8

And I just couldn't handle it.

1:42.2

That's the truth of the matter right there.

1:44.1

I just had to let some things go's the truth of the matter right there.

1:50.1

I just, I had to let some things go. And it was bittersweet letting the podcast go because I enjoyed doing it.

1:57.3

I enjoyed, you know, interacting with our fans, but it was just too much. Right. Well, and this is not where we make our living, right? I mean, you know, we have, we have real jobs.

2:02.7

Yeah. And, you know, you talk about capacity. When I was in, when I was in business school,

2:08.3

getting my degree in accounting, I took a course in entrepreneurship and they would have a guest

2:12.6

speaker every, every Thursday. And one of those guest speakers was Michael Dell,

2:16.9

of Dell computer. And he talked about

2:19.4

early on in the business when they were still doing catalog, mail order computer, and they

2:25.2

were building from scratch. And then all of a sudden, it's like overnight, the business just

2:31.5

exploded. And the volume of incoming orders exceeded their manufacturing

2:36.7

capacity to such an extent that they almost went out of business. And I've always kind of

2:43.4

remembered that in the back of my mind. You know, my business has enough capacity to do what

2:48.1

it's doing, but not so much capacity that you can't get overwhelmed,

2:53.2

right? And so, you know, I think that was both of us, right? We were, we were both doing,
