Turn to Matthew chapter 1 and Isaiah 7. We're going to take a few weeks and talk about Christmas.

And the title of this short series just for the month of December is called,

and they shall call him. and they shall call him and they shall call him and the first one is

Emmanuel. What we're going to do is look in Matthew chapter one and see the names that they call

Jesus at his birth.

What we call Jesus matters.

And Matthew 1 gives us three names for him that were given to him at his birth. And the one we're going to look at first

will be Emmanuel. Matthew 1 verse 18. Says now the birth of Jesus Christ, there's the other two by the way, was as follows.

After his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, that means engaged, before they came together,

before they were married, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.

Then Joseph her husband being a just man and not wanting to make her a public example was

minded to put her away secretly.

But while he thought about these things, behold an angel of the Lord appeared

to him in a dream saying, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you marry your wife.

For that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit and she will bring forth the

son and you shall call his name Jesus for he will save his people from their sins.

So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the

Prophet saying behold the Virgin shall be a child and bear a son and they shall call his name

Emmanuel which is translated God with us.

That's what the word or the name Emmanuel means.

God with us.
