Summary

While this one is something of a fan favorite, we were surprised by the simplicity of the central mystery upon a reread, given all the Christie puzzles we've solved thus far.... Add to that a number of characters who are never really suspects, plus a few absurd side-plots that don't quite hang onto the main action as they should, and we come out a bit more critically on this one than we expected, despite retaining a healthy affection for some of this Poirot novel's better elements.

be covering those novels on this podcast, since they of course weren't written by Christie herself,

we're obviously intrigued by them and the process that brought them to life, and we've been looking forward to speaking with Sophie for quite some time.

Though I would like to note, per our friend John Curran, that apparently was written as early as 1938. This was

still around the time where she was banking these things so she was writing

after she wrote them.

So that's fairly significant.

I think it was at the end of 1938, but still that's a good two-plus years before it actually
