So let me tell you what I want to do.

We've been going through the book of Daniel, and we passed last week into the

prophetic section where there's dreams and visions that are strange.

It's the reason why many pastors stop teaching Daniel around chapter 6.

He survived the lions, the end.

And you just kind of skip some of these stranger passages.

But what I want to do is I want to read for us Daniel chapter 8 in its entirety.

And then I'm going to read it.

Then I'm going to attempt to explain it with some historical

context, and then I want to apply it, because at that point you'll be wondering what on earth

does this have to do with me, and I want to try to drive that home so we're better people as a

result. Amen? So with that said, Daniel chapter 8, let me read it to you, and then we'll talk about it. Daniel 8, beginning in verse 1,

it says, in the third year of the reign of King Belchazzer, a vision appeared to me Daniel, after that,

which appeared to me at the first. And I saw in the vision, and when I saw, I was in Susa, the

citadel, which is in the province of Elam. And I saw in the vision, and I saw I was in Sousa, the citadel, which is in the province of Ilam.

And I saw in the vision and I was at the Ulai Canal. And I raised my eyes and saw and behold a ram

standing on the bank of the canal. It had two horns and both horns were high, but one was higher

than the other and the higher one came up last. And I saw the

ram charging westward and northward and southward. No beast could stand before him, and there was
