podcast this week my guest is Ray Roberts. Ray Roberts is a California painter who paints landscapes and figures both in the studio and in

planare. He is best known for his seascapes, figurative work Landscapes of California and the Southwest.

Ray has won numerous awards for his paintings, including the Gold Medal for Best Painting at the California

Art Club, and the Artist Choice Award, the highest accolade from fellow artists at several

major Southwest art events.

And I just want to note several times in this interview we mentioned Peggy. Peggy is Ray's wife,

the other half of the Kroll Robert studio. And you might remember Peggy from an earlier

She and Ray form a very unique partnership and often host workshops together.

Hello Ray and thank you so much for being on this Abbey Painter podcast with me. I appreciate you taking the time to talk with me.

Thank you, Antries, the honor is mine. Can you talk a little bit about when you first decided that you were going to dive into the world of painting and that that would be your vocation.

I was such an

insecure artist, I was lucky enough to get into Art Center. I was an advertising

illustration major and it wasn't until right upon graduation

that I decided to go to into illustration and after doing that for about

seven years or so that's no no it's more like ten years that's that's I started to switch. That's when we started to switch. I met Peggy and we both had painted

occasionally outside of our illustration careers and to be long-winded it was it was

about 1991 92 is when when that was a question right when yeah when you started and I'm also kind of

curious I'd love to hear if you can describe a little bit about what that was like

...
