About Dr. Joy Poskozim:

Dr. Joy’s true passion is being an advocate for the geriatric population. She is the dental director for several nursing care facilities, educating staff as well as providing care to nursing home residents. She also makes house calls in and around the Chicagoland area.

Dr. Poskozim has been in private practice for 25 years, practicing integrative health general dentistry at her office on the northwest side of Chicago, and has been performing dental procedures on the home-bound for over 16 years. In 2017 she earned her Dentistry in Long-Term Care Certificate from the University of the Pacific Dental School, her Fellowship with the Special Care Dental Association Geriatric Council in 2018, and is certified as a Dementia Practitioner as of 2021.

Dr. Joy is a 1990 graduate of Marquette University, and New York University College of Dentistry in 1994. She completed a GPR from Woodhull Medical Center in 2000 where she was awarded Resident of the Year.

0:44.0	Welcome, Dr. Joy. How are you? Wonderful. How are you? I'm great. So I introduce you as Dr. Joy
0:50.8	Poskosum, and you are the owner of a dental care clinic in Chicago, Illinois.
0:57.0	Let's start off a little bit with why dental care matters for the topics we cover here at
1:03.2	All Home Care Matters.
1:04.9	Absolutely.
1:05.8	Well, it's really difficult to eat without teeth.
1:09.4	And as we age, we want to be able to eat what we want,
1:13.5	you know, within reason, of course. But without the ability to chew, without the ability to eat,
1:19.7	it's very difficult to have proper nutrition. It's very difficult to maintain our immune systems,
1:25.7	especially if we are, you know, as we age,
1:28.5	become more immunocompromised, where we potentially have a problem with, you know, one of the
1:34.0	comorbidities of chronic disease, anywhere from COPD to diabetes. These things really affect
1:41.5	our immune systems, wreck havoc on them, stress them out.
1:45.4	And therefore, every more reason that we're eating and were able to chew nutritional foods.
