That's J.D. Vance. He's on the runway in Agra, in India, declaring that they put an enormous amount of time into the diplomacy of a peace plan that does not look like it's going to work.

Does he really believe that asking Ukraine to cede Ukrainian land to Russia was ever going to be a runner?

And if he did believe that, and he says he's

optimistic, why on earth has Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State, and Steve Wittkoff, the President's

Special Envoy, pulled out of talks in London to discuss the way forward. Realistically, it sounds like America has no confidence

that this is going to go anywhere at all. And who can blame the Ukrainians for that? Welcome to the

newsagents. The newsagents. It's John. It's Emily. And yesterday we were getting quite excited about this big formal meeting summit that David Lamey, the Foreign Secretary, was hosting in London.

We were expecting Marco Rubio. We were expecting Steve Wickoff, the US Special Envoy on Russia.

And I was crawling around a few people

trying to work out where, what, when was happening. We tried to get ourselves invited into the

room, which is something that we often do. And a surprise development, they said, thanks, but no thanks.

We'll call you. And I touched base with the embassy and I said, can you just confirm is Marco Rubio staying with you?

And are there any press events that we can attend?

This was about 11 o'clock yesterday morning.

And unusually, I didn't get anything back.
