Hey everyone, DJ Louis here, dropping in with a quick message, but an important one for our Spotify listeners, the people that listen to this podcast on Spotify.

I know that I've been alluding to this vaguely on recent episodes, but things have escalated to a point where I feel like I need to release a standalone statement, which is to say we've received a number of take down notifications

from Spotify for various episodes in our back catalog at an increasing frequency rate. Without

getting into too many of the details, Spotify is being responsive to an organization that is asking

for take down notices for podcasts that are using music media clips in their shows.

And Spotify is complying, even though they defend our right as we have always understood it to

use media clips under what is called fair use, which essentially provides podcasts like ours,

the right to use clips of media for educational and commentary purposes. We are music

lovers. We respect the rights of artists first and foremost. And we also know that we are legally

in the right here and have had that vetted since the beginning of the show through various

legal channels. And unfortunately, this is being done via bots and things that we

are not able to control at the moment. And what's more is Spotify has insinuated that there is a

moment at which point they could remove our show entirely from Spotify. Kobe's a good news here,

which is that we are working on this behind the scenes. And it seems like there's a pretty decent

chance we'll be able to

figure this out and deal with this long term with Spotify. And the other piece of good news is that

the show is available in a myriad of other places for you to listen to it. And what is going on here

is contained to Spotify and does not affect the podcast on other platforms.

So what we are suggesting is that if you are a listener to the podcast on Spotify, that you go and follow the show,

subscribe to the show in any of the panoply of other places that it's currently available.

Obviously, the most obvious one for that is Apple Podcasts, but of course, Amazon Music and Audible,

PocketCast, Podcast Addict, Dizer, Player FM, the podcast index, listener notes, overcast, Castro,

...
