And that was the wholly expected and predicted outcome of the decision of the United States to withdraw.

That's Ian Bremmer.

He's the founder and president of the Eurasia Group, a political risk consultancy, and GZero Media, which provides coverage of international affairs.

August 31st marked the formal withdrawal of all U.S. troops from the country, effectively ending 20 years of U.S. involvement in the war.

Addressing the nation on Tuesday afternoon, President Biden said,

The decision about Afghanistan is not just about Afghanistan. It's about ending an era of major military operations to remake other countries.

The Taliban, who quickly regained power as U.S. soldiers executed their withdrawal over the last few weeks, celebrated the departure of U.S. troops with gunfire.
