If you are trying to find somebody to run for president, what has come to be known as

the Deep State, you'd be hard pressed to find a better qualified candidate than Michael

Hayden.

A retired and highly decorated Air Force 4 star general, he served as director of the

National Security Agency under President Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

While there, in the days after 9-11, he implemented a controversial White House order warrantless

wiretapping program that bypassed the Special Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that

had been set up by Congress to oversee such practices.

He later served as director of the CIA during a tumultuous period when aggressive interrogation

practices, which critics likened to torture, were exposed, and drone strikes targeting suspected

terrorists were ramped up dramatically.

Now he's a private citizen who maintains close ties to the intelligence community, and

he's written a new book in which he excoriates President Trump, calling him a useful idiot

of Vladimir Putin and a congenital liar who is unable to distinguish the truth.

We'll talk to Michael Hayden about why he's speaking out right now, and what he can tell
