me jar um and and there is a proper dichotomy emerging there's a proper tension between people who think it's absolutely inevitable

that the descendants of slavers should face some form of financial penalty

and the descendants of slaves or the enslaved should face some sort of financial compensation

and people who somewhat predictably object furiously to the proposal.

I'm minded to confine the conversation to people who know either that their ancestors were enslaved or,

because I'd like to be balanced, or know full well that the wealth into which

they were born was built in large part on slavery.

But that's coming up a little later in the program.

I'm going to begin with shoplifting.
