this is recode media peter kofka that is me and it's not the end of the year, but it's almost the end of the year.

When it's the end of the year, I talked to Lucas Shaw from Bloomberg so we can talk about

what happened in 2022 and media and what might happen in 2023. Normally we have sort of a depressing

conversation about the state of the world, but we're going to try to be a little bit upbeat.

Lucas, let's let's start right here. I'm going to go see Avatar. I call it Avatar 2, but that's not the name of the movie. It's called, what does it call? Avatar, the Way of Water. Way of Water. Let's call it Avatar 2. I'm going to see it tonight. You have seen it. By the time this podcast comes out, everyone can see it. Will we collectively like this movie? I think most people will.

Yeah. Yeah. It's a very, I mean, it's, look,

Jim Cameron knows how to make a visually sumptuous movie that has a good story. It's like,

if you take a, not that he would hate it being compared to a Marvel movie,

but it looks considerably better than a Marvel movie and it has real emotional stakes,

while still being a big old popcorn movie. I never saw the original one in large part because

I had kids around the time it first came out and there was no way I was going was going to spend my rare non-kid time at a three-hour movie.

My kids haven't seen the movie.

There's a generation of people who haven't seen Avatar.

Is it important that this is the sequel to a big deal movie that came out in 2010-ish, 2009?
