From New York City, Roberta Glass is now on the record.

In the morning hours of March 29, 2019, 21-year-old Samantha Josephson stepped into a black Chevy Impala she believed to be her Uber ride and disappeared. Josephson, a senior at the University

of South Carolina, had just spent the night drinking with friends. Her body was

discovered 15 hours later by turkey hunters on a rural dirt road, 65 miles southeast of Columbia

in the town of New Zion. Samantha Josephson had maintained over a hundred stab wounds to her body.

Shortly after, 24-year-old Nathaniel Roland was pulled over in a traffic stop.

Roland ran from the police and was captured and charged with the crime of kidnapping and murder.

The trial began last month on the 20th of July.

The prosecution presented what Judge Clifton Newman described as an avalanche of evidence against the defendant. And seven days later, the jury returned a guilty verdict.

Nathaniel Rowland was sentenced to life in prison July 27, 2021. The case sparked a call for greater safety of ride-sharing apps. Sammy's law was

passed in New Jersey, which requires ride-sharing apps to produce a scanable QR code, and all cars are

required to have a sign that is lit to identify themselves. The law has made no movement

to pass nationally. To discuss the case with me is Josh Diaz of the True Crime YouTube channel The Lab. Welcome Josh Diaz.

How are you doing today? Great. So what makes this trial with an avalanche of evidence against Roland interesting?

Now, as far as what makes an open and shut case so interesting, when it comes to Nathaniel Rowland, the case is so, the case is so overwhelming, but yet it fascinates us because when these kind of crimes typically happen,

there's usually a sexual motive involved. I don't see one here.

I didn't see one presented at trial.
