I'm Matt Elton. Today we're joined by Vincent Brown, whose book, Taki's Revolt,

The Story of an Atlantic Slave War, chronicles the story of an 18th century revolt by enslaved people that reveals much about the wider slave trade of the time. It's among the book,

shortlisted for this year's Kundal Prize,

I caught up with Vincent to find out more.

So your latest book is called Tacky's Revolt,

which encourages us to see international slavery and its history

through a series of really interesting sort of new prisms.

Before we get into that, I wondered if you could just really briefly sketch what the event of the title is and when it happened.

Yeah, so Taki's Revolt is about the largest slave revolt in the 18th century British Empire,

which occurred in Jamaica in 1760 and on into 1761.
