Summary

Startup entrepreneur and investor Ben Gilbert, co-founder and managing director of Pioneer Square Labs and PSL Ventures, is always watching for the next big tech wave. He concedes that there have been plenty of false starts in the industry in the past: augmented and virtual reality, "personal audio computing," and more.

But Gilbert, who also co-hosts the popular podcast "Acquired," didn't hesitate for a moment when asked what he believes will be the most important technology of 2023.

"ChatGPT based on GPT 4," he said, referencing a future version of OpenAI's conversational AI chatbot running on the next version of its large language model.

Gilbert and his Acquired co-host David Rosenthal were two of the business and tech leaders who spoke with us about the challenges of the past year and their outlook for the future at the GeekWire Gala on Dec. 4. The potential for generative and prescriptive AI to transform industries was a key theme running through many of the conversations.

for the new year. Let's hear what they have to say. Well, I am here with Ben Gilbert and David

Rosenthal, the co-hosts of the podcast Acquired, who have agreed to be my guinea pigs here at the Geekwire Gala. It's great to see both of you. Great to see you, too. Happy to kick the tires here. It's wonderful to be here. Glad to be back in Seattle. All right, so I'm going to test out these questions on the two of you. We're trying to take the pulse of the Seattle and West Coast tech community here.

And feel free to take your time to think.

1:47.4

I know Ben does this especially.

1:49.4

When you ask Ben a question, I actually admire the fact that Ben, unlike many other people in this world, stops and thinks.

1:57.8

It's a trick we learn from one of our guests on Acquired, actually, who would stop for like 10 minutes and write down notes and like outline his answers.

2:05.2

And we're like, that is genius.

2:06.8

Nice.
