Today, the future of damage control at the Justice Department

and a new push to give pandemic loans to small businesses.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman, Mr. Ranking Member, members of the Judiciary Committee.

I am honored to appear before you today as the President's nominee to be the Attorney General.

This week, Merit Garland, President Biden's nominee to become the Attorney General,

is testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee seeking to convince lawmakers

that he is up to the task of being the highest ranking law enforcement official in the U.S. government.

I'm Matt Sapataski. I'm a National Security Reporter for the Post.

If I have confirmed as Attorney General,

I will be the culmination of a career I have dedicated to ensuring that the laws of our country

are fairly and faithfully enforced and the rights of all Americans are protected.

So, of course, many of us remember Merit Garland because he was Obama's nominee in 2016

for the Supreme Court seat that he was never able to actually fill.
