Hey there, I'm so glad you stopped by for this podcast. We hope so much we can serve you today.

0:12.0

First Samuel chapter 18, you'll notice particularly if you were here with us last week that we spent our

0:22.0

time last Sunday studying the covenant that Jonathan made with David. We're going to pick up right

0:29.0

after that in verse 5 and read through verse 16, verse 18, verse 5, whatever Saul sent

0:37.0

him to do, David did it so successfully that Saul gave him a high rank in the army.

0:43.0

This pleased all the people and Saul's officers as well. When the men were returning home after David

0:49.0

had killed the Philistine, the women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul with singing

0:55.0

and dancing and with joyful songs and with tambourines and lutes and I want you to just picture that he can see

1:01.0

them. It's a parade before his eyes coming home dancing before him and then he begins to listen to what their

1:09.0

tune is saying and he hears them say, Saul has slain his thousands and then the next refrain is

1:17.0

David his tens of thousands. Let that fall on you for just a moment. All the dance, all the celebration,

1:29.0

all the welcome, Saul has slain his thousands but David, now David has slain his tens of thousands.

1:41.0

You and I have been studying for weeks the insecurity of Saul and you talking about something that tapped

1:49.0

in immediately to every insecurity he had. It says in verse 8, Saul was very angry. This refrain

1:57.0

gold him. They have credited David with tens of thousands he thought but me with only thousands.

2:03.0

What more can he get but the kingdom? Now do you see where he went from point A to B? I mean,

2:09.0

immediately and he says then in verse 9 and from that time on Saul kept a jealous eye on David.

2:17.0

Let me repeat that. From that time on Saul kept a jealous eye on David. The next day an evil spirit

2:25.0

from God came forcefully upon Saul. Now if you recall with us a couple of weeks ago we studied how that was

2:31.0

possible that God is absolutely sovereign and he works all things to his great purpose and if an evil spirit

2:39.0

comes to someone who has been in relationship with God it will only be because somehow God has permitted it

2:45.0

and that is why it says that he came from God. Not because God tempts us to evil.
