The United States unequivocally condemns the violence. All parties must step back and engage in meaningful dialogue that leads to a lasting ceasefire.

The U.S. has supported the interim Syrian government, led by Ahmed al-Shara, a former jihadist

who has promised peace. Ten days ago, the U.S. lifted its terrorist designation on Hyatt
