American Resistance based on my recent book of that title, in which we talked to some

of the core people who were involved, not just in the preparation of the book, but who

have stood out as as as leading examples of the kind of public service we're talking

about here. We're very fortunate to have today joining us Fiona Hill, well known to all

of you both from her appearances on television during the impeachment hearings, subsequent

to that, and her book. There is nothing for you here finding opportunity in the 21st century.

Fiona is senior fellow in the center on the United States and Europe in the foreign policy

program at the Brookings Institution. She recently served as deputy assistant to the president,

senior director for European and Russian affairs on the NSC from 2017 to 2019 from 2006 to 2009.

She served as national intelligence officer for Russia and Eurasia at the National Intelligence

Council. Hi Fiona. Hi David. I just wanted to get you know the highlights in there

thanks again for joining us. Thanks again for talking to me during the course of the book. Let

me start with one of the questions similar to how I started the last time we spoke about this.

You had served in the government before and certainly when you arrived in the Trump

administration you knew that the issues you would be dealing with were going to be sensitive

ones to him given the election and so forth. How quickly did this manifest itself?

Really from day one. I wasn't expecting me to be quite that quick but it was apparent from my

very first day in the office even before I'd been properly orientated as they might say that's
