Summary

Jen Psaki explains why Donald Trump has been a beneficiary, rather than a victim, of the two-tiered justice system in this country. Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen and legal analyst Kristy Greenberg join Jen to break down the latest in Trump's hush money case, which is set to go to trial on April 15. Next, Jen is joined by former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson to discuss the GOP's attempts to discredit the January 6th committee's findings under the direction of Trump. Later, Jen offers her thoughts on NBC's hiring of former RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel and the importance of honest, good-faith discourse in the face of election denialism. Finally, former Senator Al Franken joins the show to discuss the current state of our political system as the Republican party veers closer towards becoming the party of Donald Trump.

Right now, the justice system is moving when it comes to Donald Trump, but it is moving slowly.

0:14.6

And we saw more evidence of that again today. So while the wheels of justice turn at their own

0:19.4

frustrating pace, we want to spend some time talking to people who saw and heard what Donald Trump did in these various cases up close.

0:27.8

Drews might not get to hear from them just yet, but we can hear from them right now.

0:32.1

So that's what we're going to do tonight.

Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen is standing by, and so is former Trump White House aide

0:38.2

Cassidy Hutchinson. But I do want to start in New York City. And the tale today of two Trump

0:43.6

trials we saw play out. First, there was a major development in what is often short-handed as the

0:48.8

hush money case, but is actually, and this is important, an election interference case. Given, as a reminder, Trump falsified business records to silence a porn star during his 2016 campaign.

With Donald Trump sitting in the courtroom today, the judge in that case set the start date of his criminal trial for April 15th.

1:07.0

Now, that date does come after a bit of a delay due to a massive document dumped by the Department

1:11.5

of Justice that happened just days before the trial was supposed to start. But we very well may

1:17.8

see the first criminal trial of a former president in just three weeks. Also today, in the New York

1:23.6

civil fraud case, an appeals court ruled that Trump has 10 additional days to post a reduced

1:28.4

bond of $175 million. That is, of course, less than half of the full judgment that was originally

1:34.9

due today. And according to the New York Times, the $175 million bond is roughly the amount that

1:41.7

Trump's lawyers had argued was the maximum penalty he could have

1:45.0

possibly owed. A potential sign, according to the Times, that the court believes the $454 million

1:51.0

judgment was too steep. That's a pretty big reprieve for the guy who just this morning

1:56.8

woke up facing the very real possibility of a frozen bank account and seized assets that could have

2:03.4

included his Westchester golf course, his Florida Social Club, or his beloved New York Trump Tower.

2:10.6

And what really struck me about all of this is just how ironic it is that a guy who was railed
