We'll begin this morning with an examination of something that's been bothering me for years now, as you'll know if you're kind enough to listen on a regular

basis. It's just this curious accommodation of untruths. Politicians all tell lies, that's

a common refrain, a common phrase, but there's a scale, isn't there, of deception and

dishonesty?

There is a denial of what is right in front of our very eyes, and it is now being undertaken

on a daily basis by the President of the United States of America.

And yesterday he did it here while standing beside our Prime Minister and describing events

outside the building they were in,

in the most dishonest and deceitful of terms.

And I just want to try, hopefully, without necessarily engaging in any kind of ding-dong.

I want to try and work out why.

I just want to know how he gets away with it.

I'm intrigued. I suspect for people

that are attracted to Donald Trump's brand of politics, rhetoric, call it what you will, then

part of the way you can excuse it is by pointing out that you don't trust any politicians, but isn't

that the mother of all two wrongs make a right arguments?

Speaking of two wrongs making a right, PMQs today will be conducted by, wait for it, David Lidington and Rebecca Long Bailey, with their more senior colleagues being quite rightly drawn to the D-Day celebrations, commemorations down in Portsmouth, the 75th anniversary

of D-Day tomorrow, of course, June the 6th today marks the commemoration of the assembly of the

troops that would lead that invasion into Normandy. We'll just take advisement on whether or not

we invite tales of our own family's involvement today or tomorrow on that,
