of the conservative movement who did not,

you know, carry that kind of image of American carnage

on the sleeve was absolutely central to Republican politics

until Donald Trump comes along.

You know, one of the really dangerous trends of our age,

which it makes me a little sounds like,

a little like an old crotchety maim when I say this,

but it's true is like a historicization of everything.

There is a degree to which everything that happens

is the first time it's happened.

Everything, every crisis is the worst crisis ever.

No one has ever seen X.

No one has ever seen Y.

And that I understand reaching for that hyperbole,

I do it all the time myself in fact,

because we are genuinely living
