Today I'm bringing you the story of Jeannie Leavitt, the first female fighter pilot in the history of the US Air Force. The first time I crossed into Iraq I remember it very well.

Your adrenaline's going and your heart rate increases because you know there are people on the ground that want to shoot you out the sky and it's almost surreal at first.

In 2003, Jeannie Leavitt was deployed to Iraq to fly fighter missions.

She was the first woman to pilot an F-15E Strike Eagle, a plane famous for its speed and

agility.

But then very quickly you fall back on the training that you got and you realize okay I've got this I've got the

training I need I know what to do and so sometimes it would just be a show of force that

we would go by low and fast and the enemy went back off and was kind of

almost like a warning before we would start employing ordinance.

Born in Minnesota, Jeannie Leavitt was fascinated by airplanes from a young age.

She inherited the passion from her father who'd been in the Air National Guard.

So when did you actually first get in a plane? My mother was

terrified of flying so we never took commercial airplane flights. It wasn't until I was
