Welcome to my coworker, Jordan Bianchi. We are

motorsports writers here at The Athletic. And we are sitting here on July 4th. We've just watched

the Rhode America NASCAR race the first time that's happened on July 4th. You know,

it's funny, Jordan all this time uh up until

this week for some reason i was thinking oh you know inaugural cup race at road america and then

everybody's like oh first one since nineteen 56 oh i i for so all i could completely miss that but

uh obviously weren't around then you're you're forgiven i wasn't you weren't chase elliott wasn't and uh but it sure looked like he was because he

quickly mastered the track another road course win for chase elliott number seven of his career third

on the all time list jordan he's done it again yeah i got a got a question for you. What's least surprising?

Chase Elliott winning on a road course or a Hendrick car winning because it just seems like

both these things happen all of the time lately.

Chase had his issues in qualifying, really kind of some bad luck.

He tried to make two runs.

The caution came out during his run to stop the action.

And he ends up starting in the back and you're thinking,

well, it's going to be hard to pass and everything.

But Road America is one of those tracks where you can work your way up.

And he did a good job of managing the race.

And this wasn't the craziness I was expecting.
