To me the glory of the Tina Turner story is not just her incredible legs

nor even her longevity for those incredible legs. It's that it is one of those

distinctly American stories. There's a woman who came out of nowhere. Here's

a woman much like Cher who's paired with a man who starts as the bigger star

who is guiding this thing and then senses that he's created something bigger

than himself and his attempts to control and her ambition begins to shine and

others start saying you're the star or not him and their famous relationship

and his violence and she moves beyond I and then there are the 80s when she

just emerges and she's everywhere and she's huge and she has a second act.

Scott Fitzgerald said there's no second act in American life but there is. We

love a second act. Don't tell John Travolta he had a lot of roles after he was

washed up. Don't tell Tony Bennett. We love a great comeback story and she's

a great comeback story. She's an absolutely wonderful comeback and and there's
