We are a republic. We are the greatest republic and there's a very special way we run our elections.

It's not federally done. The states control how those elections are done,

but now they want to change all that. They want to federalize the way we do our elections and how

we choose our presidents. How dangerous is that? Let's discuss HR1 that is before Congress,

with a man who knows because he was FEC commissioner. He was a commissioner on the commission that

looked after our federal regulations. He's now senior legal fellow with Heritage Foundation,

Hans von Spakowski. Welcome back to America first.

Sebastian, thanks for having me back. Hans, let's walk our millions of

listeners and views through all of this. Why is this a problem? We see that there's confusion,

there's at least 50 different ways of doing things. If we add localities, there's probably hundreds.

Why is HR1 a disastrous concept? Because it would federalize and nationalize elections.

Basically, the federal government would take it over from the state. That means that politicians

and incumbents could ensure that the rules are such that they will get reelected.

It does all kinds of bad things. It basically takes everything bad that happened last year,

cemented in place, and then make things even worse. For example, it bans all state voter

ID laws. It restricts the ability of states to clean up and maintain the accuracy of their voter

roles. It's just one change after another like that that would make our election system even more

vulnerable to fraud and other problems. Now, let me ask the layman's question. I've been told
