hello and welcome to the third episode of america against the world and in today edition, we want to consider how far this one president can truly reposition

the United States for years to come in what may seem like a new world disorder, a world

in which all of us are a little less secure.

And what does all of this mean for the most coherent and ambitious rising power to rival U.S. interests, the People's Republic of China?

I'm Gavin Esler, as America is now,

are always looking over their shoulder at future rivals. You don't have to be a geostrategic genius

to note that the rising power, an American rival for the 21st century, is undoubtedly the People's

Republic of China. I spoke with Sir Robin Nibblett. He's a British foreign policy

specialist and distinguished fellow at Chatham House and author of The New Cold War,

how the contest between the US and China will shape our century. I asked him to explain the title.

Well, what I saw in that title was trying to make sure the world understands that the competition

between the US and China is multi-dimensional across all dimensions of power, economic, technological,

military, even institutional, definitely, maybe even ideological, and that it's going to last a very

long time.

I don't know how long, but I'm thinking in decades

as the last Cold War did as well. So the reason for that title is to really explain to people
