Vogue Runway’s Production and Editorial Associate Irene Kim, alongside WSJ Magazine Style Director Willow Lindley, sat down earlier this year with Amelia in the studio to discuss what her life as a model is really like. | 0:33.2 | Amelia, we are so happy to have you here at the studio. I'm very happy to see you. Welcome, welcome. It's great to see you again. When we first met, actually in this building, was that the first time you'd come to the building? Okay. So the first time Amelia and I met, we had Amelia come to the World Trade Center for the first time, and it was ahead of the Metgala last year was three days ahead. It was three days ahead. You were fresh off a flight from Chanel. Marseille. Yep. Yep. And we had quite a dress for you to try on. Well, the first time I met you, you were pretty much on the floor under my dress. Screwing me in. Exactly. And most dresses don't require screwdrivers. |
| 1:11.8 | Right. |
| 1:12.5 | You know, I've been at Vogue for 10 years. It was the first time I had to ask maintenance for a screwdriver. Screwdrivers or a beautiful blonde woman on the floor. Looking up your skirt. Looking up your skirt. Hi, nice to meet you. It's so nice to meet you. I'm Amelia. Yeah. And Amelia was such a trooper because that dress was a terrarium. |
| 1:32.2 | It was an undercover dress that was in the exhibition. |
| 1:34.9 | It was actually the dress that was the cover of the catalog, too, which was very impressive. |
| 1:39.2 | But it was an actual terrarium. |
| 1:41.4 | And so it was plexiglass or plastic or a variety of things. And you kindly |
| 1:46.5 | held it up while I screwed you in from a variety of... Got to help a sister out. You know, and you |
| 1:52.2 | held it, you held it together. And then do you remember what we did after we screwed in the dress? |
| 1:58.1 | We turned the lights on. Well, no, we couldn't turn the lights on. So there were electrical strips in the dress that we couldn't figure out to turn on, but we made you go to the cafeteria and practice walking up and down the stairs. Of course. They told me don't go to the cafeteria because they were like, someone's going to be in their Matt gal outfit and you can't look. But you know what? |
| 2:23.5 | It's interesting because I don't think many people know like the story behind that Met look. |
| 2:26.5 | And it's interesting that right now, what is it? |
| 2:27.2 | Now it's February. |
| 2:29.5 | And I'm already having conversations of the Met. |
| 2:30.7 | Blessed, by the way. |
| 2:31.8 | Blessed dreams come true. |
| 2:45.6 | But last year I didn't have conversations about the Met until four days before the Met, in which I was told that I needed to fly to New York and try on this dress. |
