In this episode we're talking about the disappearance of Amelia Earhart.

I'm Dom Bettenelli and joining me today is Jimmy Aiken. Hi Jimmy.

Howdy Dom. On July 2nd, 1937,

famed aviator Amelia Earhart was nearing the end of her record breaking round the world flight.

She was over the Pacific Ocean nearing air refueling stop on to Howland Island.

She sent radio messages to the Coast Guard vessel Atasca, which was trying to guide her on her

approach to Howland Island. But something was wrong, desperately wrong, and Amelia Earhart

vanished without a trace, leaving a mystery that remains to this day.

And that's what we'll be talking about on this episode of Jimmy Aiken's mysterious world.

So let's start with the basics. Who was Amelia Earhart? She was born in 1897 in Atchenson,

Kansas. Her father was an attorney, and she had a bit of an unconventional upbringing because her

mother didn't believe in forcing her children to be, quote, nice little girls, close quote.

As a result of that and her natural inclinations, she was something of a tomboy, and she was quite

adventurous. She was raised to Piscopalian and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She also

was a member of the altar guild, which helped keep the church in good order by caring for the

linens, making floral arrangements, and holding fundraisers. In 1920, when she was 24,
