0:28.4	Our view is that this operation cannot move forward, given the tense and difficult humanitarian situation on the ground.
0:39.9	Every morning I wake up hoping that I will see that a deal has been struck.
0:46.1	Linda Thomas Greenfield is America's ambassador to the United Nations.
0:50.5	For 40 years, she's had a distinguished career at the highest levels of American diplomacy.

0:58.6	But it's what she didn't do at the UN in recent days that could change the course of the war between Israel and Hamas.

1:08.6	I'm delighted to be here with you.
1:10.1	I really appreciate it.
1:11.6	So we're going to talk about a lot, but I want to start with what's at top of mind here,
1:14.6	and that is Israel and a ceasefire.
1:17.6	Just a few days ago, a UN Security Council vote,
1:20.6	the U.S. abstained on the resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.
1:23.6	Why did you abstain?
1:25.6	We have always said we support a ceasefire connected to the release of the hostages
1:33.3	and that would provide for ramped-up humanitarian assistance to meet the dire needs of the Palestinian people.
1:42.3	So that resolution provided for that, but we felt we could not vote for the resolution.
