Hey this is Patrick Coffin. You know I'm serious about what I'm about to say because my tie is

a skew and my sleeves are rolled up. But I want to say a few things about the German

Zonian Synod documents and that kind of

summarize the content of the recent Synod in the Amazonian area so so you

don't have to so here's what they're called. The first one is an apostolic

exhortation called Curita Amazonia. The second one is the final

document that's referred to in the first one. And the third one I want you to

pay attention to is the Apostolic Constitution,

Episcopales Communia, also from Pope Francis. All three of these documents are

intertwined in a way that offers multiple interpretations and none of them are very

clear. I know, shocking. So let's start with

Carita Amazonia. A lot of commentators miss some obvious things I think and

others even traditionalists are kind of clap happy for reasons that I don't quite

understand. So what I want to do is something radical. I want to quote from the

actual documents. Now like most documents that are cranked out by the

Vatican under Pope Francis these are not short pithy messages,

so I'm just going to give you a sample.

The very first sentence of the Apostolic Exrotation, Karita Amazonia, that just came out,

is, the beloved Amazon region stands before the world in all its

splendour, its drama, and its mystery."
