Summary

The Rocky Mountain juniper (Juniperus scopulorum), like nearly all junipers, is a conifer that took a different strategy to get its seeds dispersed. This week we chat about convergent evolution, and how nature can find the same solutions to problems in very different ways.

What's up, Fungal Associates? Welcome to Completely Arbitrary, the podcast about trees and

Who sheepishly hangs his head in shame. Here's the deal. This episode, Casey, you put

0:19.5

that shit up in the air, my friend. All right, hold on. Okay, there we go. Oh gosh,

0:23.9

all right. So we're doing a podcast today. It's about a species of juniper in the genus

0:29.6

juniperus in the family Cupersaceae, of which there are many. However, in the middle,

0:36.4

I kind of at the middle beginning, you know, somewhere in the podcast, I refer to it.

0:42.1

You refer to it as the Utah juniper. I confirm that. Right. And then as later in the podcast,

0:47.2

no, I'm not blaming you. No, I don't know. You said it. And I was like, yes, that's right.

0:52.4

1:04.6

I have made the error in the show of saying that they are the same thing. Right. They are

1:11.1

not. Yes. So the episode you're about to listen to, this is not the episode, you guys.

1:16.2

Yeah. Exciting, isn't it? This is a pre-roll to the episode. But it's, we, we, we, we,

1:21.2

we fooled you. Yeah. Can we call this a prologue? Yes. This is the prologue. Yes. The episode

1:25.9

you're about to listen to is the rocky mountain juniper, which we will, we will brand it as such

1:30.4

in the title and all of the, all of the copy on the Instagram will mention this is the rocky

1:35.8

mountain juniper. However, in the first half of the episode, we call it the Utah juniper

1:40.9

about a million times. So just ignore that and do a search and replace. Yes. Every time

1:47.6

we say Utah, replace it with rocky mountain and you've got it. Exactly. And listen, we could

1:53.6

go back and re-record, but that's really not going to happen and not our style. So as always,

2:01.1

the podcast regrets the error. The podcast regrets the error. And with that, enjoy the
